I’m running and raising funds in memory of my mom, Debbie Jones, who lost her battle with colon cancer in 2017. My goal is to raise awareness for colon cancer and help support others who are currently facing this disease.
My mom was first diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2010. After surgery and six months of chemotherapy, she was declared cancer-free. She remained diligent about follow-up care, but in October 2013, her cancer returned as Stage 4. She underwent additional chemotherapy and radiation and stayed on maintenance treatment for several years. In 2016, the cancer spread to her liver, and after a long fight, she passed away in 2017.
I am incredibly grateful for the time we had together. I was able to take her to appointments, care for her during treatments, share meaningful moments—including a cruise—and be with her when she passed. Those experiences shaped me in ways I’ll always carry.
Running this 5K is something I do in her memory and in support of those who are currently battling colon cancer.
Please consider donating or participating in the walk/run. Every contribution benefits the Colon Cancer Coalition, supporting education, awareness, and resources for patients and families. Sharing this page with friends and family also helps extend that support.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for considering being part of this effort.
