Welcome to my fundraising page - where I'm 'getting my rear in gear' to support local efforts to combat colorectal cancer!
I am walking again this year in the GYRIG 5k to raise awareness of colorectal cancer. This cause is near and dear to me because I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2022. To say it was a shock is an understatement. I went through chemo and radiation, and things were looking good. Unfortunately, in October 2024, my cancer came back. This time, I couldn't do treatment, and I had surgery to remove my rectum and get a permanent colostomy bag. I never expected to have this and didn't really understand what a colostomy was and everything it entailed. Learning how to live my new normal has had its ups and downs. I am grateful for my doctors, family, and friends who have helped me and continue to help me navigate my daily life.
We need to bring more awareness to colorectal cancer, as it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths. It can be prevented by talking to your doctor and getting a colonoscopy. Most people don’t have symptoms until it’s too late. If you think something is wrong, call your doctor.
JOIN ME in supporting the Colon Cancer Coalition / Get Your Rear in Gear to make an impact in my community. Your dollars go towards efforts that have long-lasting impact on screening, education, awareness, support, and research. Your dollars = direct, local impact.
DID YOU KNOW? Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer, and estimates state that 1 in 3 adults ages 45+ are NOT being screened as recommended. There is a 1 IN 25 lifetime risk for developing colorectal cancer (1 in 23 for men, 1 in 26 for women).
Together, we can help change these numbers. Join me and the movement to impact my local community.
Thank you!
